Born 1993 in Seoul, based in Berlin
Soyeon Shin
Soyeon Shin is a South Korean dance artist and choreographer based in Berlin, and co-founder of Bliss Kollektiv. She trained at Seoul Arts High School and Ewha Womans University in Seoul. In 2016 she presented her first choreography in Slovenia and won first prize at the OPUS1 International Young Contemporary Dance Competition.
Her work deals with identity, diaspora and cultural adaptation, themes rooted in her own experience. She combines contemporary dance with film, visual art and multimedia, and treats movement as a language for the stories words can’t carry.
As a performer, she has appeared as a guest artist at the Wiener Staatsoper in Tannhäuser and Madama Butterfly (2024–2026) and with the Korea National Contemporary Dance Company in We Are (2023). She has worked with MN Dance Company (Slovenia), Compassion 2Dance (Norway), Novanna Dance Company (Germany) and Do Do Moov Dance Theater (South Korea), and has performed at Tanz im August Berlin, the Seoul International Choreography Festival, the FRONT@ Dance Festival and the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Her work increasingly takes place in museums and galleries. She performed in Isaac Chong Wai’s Falling Reversely at the 60th Venice Biennale and in his works at Zilberman Berlin during Berlin Art Week 2024, appeared in Learning from Loheland at the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg, and in 2025 created Awakening for the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. With Bliss Kollektiv she develops work between choreography, performance and fine art.
